  • Is the 24 – 70 lens ‘worth it’ on a cropped sensor?

    Hi there,

Quickie for you nice chaps, and chapettes.

I’m looking into buying a new lens for my 550D for video, I already have a 50mm, and the kit lens, but I’ve been told the 24 -70 is a ‘must have’ also. I was told this by the owner of a 5D, and that has a full frame sensor. I know that I have to consider the crop factor on my 550 when looking at lenses, so does this make the 24 – 70 ‘not as worth it’, as if I was buying it for a full-frame?

    Thanks in advance.

there are no bumps on the cow, the post stay put.

The question is one only you can answer. Do that range work for you. On your camera it basically a 38-112 mm. If you need a real wide lens it may not work. There are no “Must have lens” there are “right lenses for the right” job lenses and lenses that give you a range that is useful for you.
