Hi all…would love any feedback to my struggle to build a proper fcp station.

    I am running a:
    dual powermac g5 (non-intel) 2.5 Ghz
    4g ram
pci-x card (or pci card…gotta check)
few terabytes on lacie 800 drives

thinking about getting aja Kona LH as my video card…cause I’m sure HD will be in my future…which brings me to my dilema…

is my computer good enough for HD capture and editing full res?

and if so what else do I need to add to my computer for that to become a reality??

will I be able to hook up RAID’S with enough speed? etc…

or do I really need an intel mac with a pci-e card to handle HD?
in which case I gotta get the Kona LHe

any opinions…anyone with setup’s on old powermac g5 (non-intel’s) love to hear how you’re set up…if you’re happy with it etc…

    thanks for any help.

Your machine is plenty good enough to handle all forms of compressed HD, i.e. HDV, DVCProHD, and Pro Res.

You can capture HDV to Pro Res via firewire, but non-Intel machines cannot capture via Pro Res via Kona or BM cards.

Your machine has PCIx slots only, and a Kona LH is a great card for your machine for I/O and HD display to a video (non-computer) display.

any suggestions would be a huge help.

Check out this Firmtek 4-bay enclosure. https://firmtek.stores.yahoo.net/sata2even4.html . It comes with their excellent PCIx controller card. Several of us, myself included, have these and they are among the most reliable on the market.
