Is “mp4 fast start” a good option?
Posted by Gilles Gagnon on October 19, 2011 at 2:39 amI recently came across a post suggesting the use of a free program called “mp4 fast start” to prepare mp4 videos for Youtube.
Is this a good idea? will it make a difference?

October 19, 2011 at 6:42 amThis makes sense if you’re going to host videos on your own web server. In case of YouTube it is optional.

October 19, 2011 at 9:34 amThe feature is included in Vegas Pro 11. You can read it in the release notes of the upgrade.

I used Fast Start some time ago, but had problems with audio drop out when uploading to YouTube and others. Never did figure out why.

October 19, 2011 at 12:57 pmYea, as Aleksey said, this is only needed if you are hosting the video yourself. It’s not needed for YouTube or Vimeo or any service that re-encodes your video anyway.
