  • Is “mp4 fast start” a good option?

I recently came across a post suggesting the use of a free program called “mp4 fast start” to prepare mp4 videos for Youtube.

Is this a good idea? will it make a difference?

This makes sense if you’re going to host videos on your own web server. In case of YouTube it is optional.

The feature is included in Vegas Pro 11. You can read it in the release notes of the upgrade.

I used Fast Start some time ago, but had problems with audio drop out when uploading to YouTube and others. Never did figure out why.

Yea, as Aleksey said, this is only needed if you are hosting the video yourself. It’s not needed for YouTube or Vimeo or any service that re-encodes your video anyway.
