Is it worth going from Vegas 10 to 11?

October 23, 2011 at 5:01 amI just upgraded to version 11 from version 7, so you’ll probably still get the upgrade deal for version 12 if you sit this one out…

October 24, 2011 at 3:04 amI have taken the upgrade path from v10 to v11, but probably will not install it until 11b or 11c.
I am still on 10c as it does exactly what I need. Sure, it does crash now and again, but it has never failed me on a render since version 8. I cannot say the same for Avid, Premiere and Pinnacle, which I have used in the past and failed to render. I don’t get paid if I can’t produce the goods. I would rather put up with the odd crash than not be able to produce anything at all.
I save regularly and hit Ctrl-S almost out of habit, so I usually do not lose more than a couple of minutes work, sometimes none at all.
To Angelo Mike, I am mystified as to what could be causing your issues, but as your are using your PC for other applications including Internet browsing, one of the following could apply:
- interference from your virus/firewall software
- installation of a CODEC pack <- These are very bad for Vegas
- corruption of Vegas system software from other software installs
- a virus
- Use of an unsupported CODEC eg DIVX in a project
- etc
Keeping your editing system clean is a must, especially if you intend to run a business from it, therefore a second editing workstation is a must.
My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

October 24, 2011 at 11:20 amIt’s worth trying, but I did that exact same thing, and ONLY installed Vegas 10, and Vegas still crashed on me frequently.

October 24, 2011 at 6:50 pmI bought it the other day just to stay current and Vegas is my bread and butter, so I don’t mind forking over the money. But there really isn’t that much new for most users. I’m finding it slower than 10, though I don’t have a newfangled GPU yet.
The fourth feature down in the New Features list is a Star-Wipe, so you know they went all out 😉

October 25, 2011 at 12:34 amIMHO, the biggest new feature is GPU Acceleration. If you can’t take advantage of that, then the isn’t much left except that all of the Sony plug-ins have been converted to OFX which gives you more keyframeable control. Those two things right there should be worth it but as I said, if you don’t have a compatible GPU then that’s a different story.

October 25, 2011 at 6:05 amHopefully reinstalling Windows fixes the issue. And I know what a codec is, but what’s a codec pack? Are there any settings for my antivirus (Eset) that I should check?
Also, Vegas does require you to register it online to use it-do you just connect your computer to the internet for that?
