Is it safe now to install QT7 in a winxp machine?

Hi Paul,

QuickTime 7 for Windows works fine with DeckLink cards for video but the QuickTime audio output component has been removed so you won’t get any audio out of QuickTime applications. That migtht or might not be an issue for you if working in After Effects or Combustion. There will be a DeckLink Windows driver update soon which will work with the new audio implementation in QuickTime 7 for Windows.

Audio output on After Effects with Decklinkcards was a question a few days ago.
How did it work. At the moment on our systems we only get audio out in After Effects on multimedia system sound speakers and not on Decklink embedded SDI.

How can I change this ?

Hi Martin,

Sorry for the confusion but I chose a bad example. We have not had audio output from After Effects on Windows during RAM preview as the audio output component is never enumerated by After Effects. I should have said that “QuickTime applications” would not be able to output audio with QuickTime 7.0 even though it worked under QuickTime 6.5.2. It is possible that an accidental side-effect of the change in QuickTime 7 might be that audio output from After Effects on Windows during RAM preview might become possible but I won’t know until new drivers are available.

I guess that was a bit obscure! Our drivers contain different kinds of support for different applications. Some applications, including After Effects, Combustion, Blackmagic Deck Control and others use our QuickTime drivers. Vegas and many custom applications use our DirectShow support. Some applications can use our ASIO drivers. Then we have specific code for Premiere Pro as it does not entirely use our DirectShow support.

So what you are saying then is that if a WINXP BMD decklink pro card user upgrades to QuickTime 7 professional, the SPDIF audio out connections will not output audio when using DeckLink 5.1.2 for Windows XP and Premier Pro 1.5.

Is this correct?
