Is it possible to lower music volume in Source Monitor?
In Final Cut Pro I would always have to double click a music file and lower the volume by about -12 DB because music it also mastered much louder than production audio. I was wondering, is there a way to do this in Premiere, so that whenever I’m going through potential music tracks I don’t constantly have to keep riding my volume levels on my audio monitors.
My output levels of my sequence are -12DB, but all my music is at 0DB, which means that every time I double click a song to audition it, it’s super loud and I have to turn down my audio monitors, and then turn them back up when it comes time to edit. In FCP it wasn’t a problem because I would pull up the song, turn the volume to -12, and then from then on it was always -12, and if I edit it into the timeline it will come in at -12.
Anyone have a suggestion for this?

Yes this can be done.
It’s best to assign a shortcut for the function.With the audio file in the source, go to the edit menu and find audio options… Then select audio gain…
Set the -12dB overall and hit OK.
The entire clip will now be -12dB less than it originally was. It is not set with a levels band like FCP so be aware of the difference in execution.
