  • Is it possible to change the levels on a certain area of a layer?

    Hi there

Basically id like to change the levels on a certain area of a video clip, its in the middle of the clip….I know I could copy the layer, make a mask of the middle change its layers and then put it on top but is there any other way, or is this the easiest?

    Thanks

    Dan

There is no other way to restrict a filter.

The BorisFX filters and some other 3rd party plugins have stuff built in to restrict to a certain color, or a portion of the screen.
But that’s all stuff that always can be done with two layers in AE.

Sometimes it’s a drag, but it keeps thing very flexible.

Add a new adjustment layer above your video layer — draw a mask on the adjustment layer, add “Levels” to the adjustment layer and the levels on the video below (and any other layers below the adjustment layer) and they will just be affected in that masked area of the adjustment layer!!
