I am not sure if there is anyways around this or not, but basically I need to add a shot number to each clip in my seq.(so that it is visible when I render it out) Right now I am just using Text overlay. But I have to render it out… I didn’t know if there was a better way to do this? Also With transitions FCP always makes me render them out before I can edit in real time?

Sorry, no way to add text without rendering before output. Well, they will be dark green (should be…no red bar) so you can play it out to tape. But if you need to encode that as a file, it will require rendering.

Render transistions? What codec is your footage?
