    Hi.

It should be elementary for users with fcp experience that gui picture is just for reference.

Some cases HDMI devices also generate a lot of delay.
I have seen it in audio post. Users have to adjust delay compensation
that goes sideways with hdmi devices with internal processing.
Even when there is no processing involved. Panel engines are slow.

Of course it is. I’ll try to say it again : the problem with my resolve is not that the UI is ahead of the monitoring. Don’t care about that. I used the UI as a reference just to measure the latency of the moniroting.

The problem with my resolve, and apparently with all resolve, is that it is slow to show me the adjustment I make because of the monitoring latency. The resolve feels like a truck when changing a grade. Color and Baselight feel like a motorcycle when changing a grade (yes I know, the resolve has lots of advantages for a crasy price, and I still love it).

I hope it will change some time soon.

And that’s why I have also done some tests on Final Cut Pro, where monitoring is the same and monitoring latency much better.

If we want this to change in a latter release, we should agree on the fact that it would be much more confortable and faster to work with a low monitoring latency than a 10-frame latency… should’nt we ?

    I agree.

I find that very strange. I can’t say I have noticed any latency when I, let’s say, make curve adjustments.

    Hi Michael,

Are you saying that when you make the grade adjustment, you see a latency on the UI display but not on the SDI display ?

Are you doing the adjustment while playing or on a stopped frame ?

Certainly not seeing any latency here when making grade adjustment. It would be a totally unusable product if it’s the case.

no, the other way round : 10 frames latency on the monitoring as compared to the UI display when playing

I measured it playing a video with timecode burnt-in, and taking a picture.

I have been contacted by DaVinci support regarding the issue (very nice to see they read those forums and react when they feel it’s necessary) : they suggested a method to measure latency using a video camera, in stop mode : in playback mode the Davinci keeps a buffer to smooth playback.

The result is in this video : https://www.charbon-studio.be/get/davinci_latency.mov ; I would very much appreciate if fellow users could watch it and tell me if it feels the same at their place.
In stop mode, it takes 5 frames (@25) for the UI to update, and an additional 5 frames for the monitoring to update.

Tthere are two sounds when I press the button on the Wave. First sound is the button-down sound, second sound is the button-up sound. The first sound is to be considered, because I have noticed the grade is disabled even if you don’t release the button

Reminder : exactly the same monitoring setup has been measured on the same system with a 5 frame latency using the Blackmagic 3D Extreme in Final Cut Pro, and 2 frame latency with the Aja Kona

I hope this will get fixed, either for all of us if everybody has the same results, or for the few of us who have apparently observed this latency

    cheers

    Michael

Once again I think this in normal based on delays through the system.
Really nothing new. We have been dealing with these delays for years with hardware based systems.

dvnr delay, projector delay, video card delay, 2k tool box, defocus – the list goes on..
    Personally I don’t see a problem

Next time hit stop before you take your photo.. It will look perfect.. 🙂

I dont want to fingerpoint here, but I have almost zero latency using Scratch and the Quadro SDI out…
Latency only gets introduced when using the house video routing from SDI to DVI splitters to feed the projector.
Our Aja card Smoke system also has almost no visible latency.
I dont have my Decklink card yet but 10 frames sounds like a lifetime to me.
I can life with two or three, thats it…and of course it needs to have a latency compensation for the audio playback which most of the time is routed separately.

Even if I have this much latency, I don’t see it, nor do I bother about it.

Audio needs to go through the Decklink card (XLR or AES/EBU) and can then be passed through to any other soundcard or whatever.. I feed the sound through a Focusrite Saffire soundcard – works like a charm. Audio is in sync with video on video monitor.
