Is it 720 x 480 or 864 x 480 ?!
I created a new project and selected 16:9 (1.2). I made a test image of 720 x 480 but when imported to the project it is not wide enough.
I imported a test image of 864 x 480 and it does fill the entire picture area, properly scaled.
When I export this project and eventually burn it to DVD, I want to fill my HDTV screen exactly, without stretching.
If I continue to use source images that are 864 x 480, will they appear stretched on the TV, even though they look good on the computer screen?

Before Photoshop had PAR options you would create graphics at 864×480(wide), than scale down in the project (using Distort/Transform, not Motion scaling). So, it’s a solid process. 🙂
If you are using PS for graphics, I think since CS, you can choose 1.2 PAR in your new document settings – this would eliminate your ‘not wide enough’ issue.
Also, in Premiere, once your graphic is in the Project window you can right-click on the file and Interpret Footage… as 1.2 PAR. This will snap your Square 720×480 to Wide 720×480.
