Activity Forums Adobe Premiere Pro Is D300s video supposed to be this bad? Shadow and highlight detail lost.

Yes, shoot as flat as possible in camera.
    No sharpness, contrast etc.
On Canon dslr they are called picture styles.
Its like a log color space on Red or Alexa.

Ditto Paul Jay’s advice – see also Nikon’s Active D-Lighting (if it has effect in video modes – not sure about that).

If it doesn’t (or not much help) – is there an option for fill lights, or shooting in natural lighting with less contrast?

[Alex Gerulaitis] “see also Nikon’s Active D-Lighting (if it has effect in video modes – not sure about that).”

My bad – Active D-Lighting has no effect in video recording on D300S.

At the same time, properly set d300s has one of the best dynamic ranges in its class – so this is a question of camera settings and lighting, to solve your problem.

(I thinks the videos are very good.)
