JVC invented the VHS format, not Magnavox. RCA then begged for a long-play version, which Mashushita gave them, so movies could fit.
Snopes.com and others debunk the “porn made the VHS format more popular” myth.

The only real difference is piracy protection. They use two different methods. Oh and I believe they have both been broken already.

Yeah… I know…
But why should I have to purchase a BluRay burner for my computer for about $699 and then have to spend at least another $488 for a cheap BluRay player.
Its kinda like the old days of DVD when we only had players that hooked up to your tv and you had to use your computer to burn them. Later, the set top burners finally came out.
But this is so cut and dry on the formats…

its not urban legend, the numbers of VHS tapes in the beginning overwhelmed do to the response, now people could afford to watch the videos in privacy. We all know that industry has driven new media – micro transactions, pay pal and other stuff to drive the marketplace.
in your other post you commented that anyone can make a disc, and that is true, but to replicate disks you have to got to a certified house, and due to the Disney influence, if it is adult in nature you will not be able to mass replicate at a certified Bluray plant.

Just for the heck of it, I just Googled “Blu Ray Porn.” I guess someone has figured a way around that licensing loophole. Lots of titles out there.
It’s like anything else, if there’s a way to get it to market, someone will figure it out.

The story is a lot jucier than that.
The HD-DVD camp literally bribed Paramount/Dreamworks with a $150 million dollar check.
Interestingly, Michael Bay proclaimed on his blog he will not make Transformers 2 for that studio after reading about this (not sure that’s a bad thing).
