Is anyone home At Bitjazz???

April 14, 2009 at 3:14 pmHi
i recently bought 2 of the Sheer video codecs from Bitjazz (PC and Mac)
I asked a couple of questions several days ago and have not heard back.
Also i noticed that any development for Kona seems to have stopped at Kona 2.
I am wondering if ProRez has made the Sheer codecs Obsolete? Have they stopped development? i am still on FCP Studio 1 so i am not able to use prorez.
thanx!

May be they went to the beach:-)
I’ve been in contact with Owen just few weeks ago.
What problem are you having?

April 14, 2009 at 3:39 pmHey Rafael
I am still getting a Color Gamma mismatch, albeit managable, between FCP Stu 1 and AE CS3.
Workflow:
CApture 1080i 29.97 10Bit Unc (Kona lhe)
Export Sheer RGBA 10b 4224, HD Color, Auto RGB
Open in AE CS3 as same.
Do THE AE THANG! using 16bit Precision, but no Color Management
Export as SHeer YCrCb 10b 4224.I get a Moderate Gamma Shift, but I AM able to compensate using the FCP Gamma Filter
But should i have to? I thought Sheer made it a perfect transfer.
One thing i do notice is even though I am selecting 10b RGB, its showing up in Quicktime as 8b RGB.
any light you can shed?
btw, when i did a search for Sheer, your posts came up a lot
bbtw, I like the junior editor you got there. Or is he the producer?

Is a monster!! My monster 🙂[Bob Flood] “One thing i do notice is even though I am selecting 10b RGB, its showing up in Quicktime as 8b RGB. “
If you are trying render 10b RGB in FC, no way Bob.
FC only renders RGB in 8b.
Your 10b RGB get crunched to 8b, this is why it shows up as 8b.
The only thing you can do in FC with 10b footage is to cut and export without re-compression.
About the gamma issue sorry I can not help you much I haven’t work with Sheer in RGB.
If you want send me an e-m and may be easier for you to contact them.

April 14, 2009 at 4:11 pmBob, Quit AE and then try and remove the AJAUncompressedcodec.component from your HardDrive>Library>Quicktime folder. Then open AE and rerender.

I have AE on the same machine as FCP, will removing that codec screw anything up?

You don’t have to remove it, just move it to a folder called “Quicktime_disabled” or something.
It won’t screw anything up unless you use the AJA Uncompressed codec. If you use the Apple Uncompressed codec (which is what most the AJA easysetups use for Uncompressed), you are fine.

I’m surprised they’re not responding, maybe busy with pre-NAB stuff. But what I can say is… stay tuned for their next developments. Three words… Holy. Freaking. Cow.

You should add a “Batman.” to that.

April 14, 2009 at 7:41 pmHey!
i exported a Native (Uncomp 10bit) from FCP, then brought it into compressor, which allowed me to make a 10 bit RGB Sheer.
after RoundTripping to AE, i brought it back in as the 10 bit Y C-R C-B, and it worked! Absolutely Dead On!
thanx! (now i will try using a QT Ref)
