Is an nvidia 6600 gt 128mb ddr3 better than a 256 mb ati radeon(pick one) performance wise? Far as video rendering and playback?

The video card is not used for the rendering process. It is the processor that does all the work.

As for performance, you would not see any difference between the two.

The ammount of card memory doesn’t really affect video processing per’se, The memory comes into play when playing back intense 3D effects and changes like with gaming for instance, Ppro does contain some effects that use a graphics card GPU, you can find them in the Effects Palette in the GPU folder, a Nvidia 6600 or equivalent ATI card is more than sufficient.

o.k. Thanks for the replies. Let me rephrase this though.I bought a 6600gt for $250 mainly for its dual dvi(monitors) outputs(which I will never need probably). When I could of got a $129 256mb ati with the same dual output(although I do need a cheap dvi adapter blah blah. Should I got return it and get the ati?

Yes main factor is just dual monitor support. Come to find out I don’t need dvi.If there is no performance difference then I should get a cheaper card right?.

For general DV editing you probably wouldn’t notice any difference, its only if you use complicated 3D effects in RT that you may notice a difference.
