is a FCP self contained movie 100% uncompressed?
Posted by Damon Packard on April 27, 2011 at 6:37 pmwas just curious if FCP self contained movies are uncompressed? Also is there any difference between Quicktime conversion uncompressed and FCP uncompressed?

April 27, 2011 at 7:19 pmThey are not uncompressed. They are whatever format your timeline is. It takes the frames from the clips and or render files and lines them all up in a row in a nice clean new, self contained quicktime. The audio is recompressed.

April 27, 2011 at 7:21 pmA self contained QT movie remains unchanged only if you keep the settings at current.
If your sequence setting is DVCPro HD 720p60, your QT Movie will be DVCPro HD 720p60.
QuickTime Conversion converts your sequence to a different setting. It is better to use Compressor to convert your Sequence.

April 28, 2011 at 2:15 amWhen you export a sequence, the ‘export quicktime move’ uses the settings of your sequence. So however your sequence is set up thats what it exports. The self contained option is simply making a true contained quicktime with all the media within the file. If the box is unchecked, then its simply a reference quicktime and will not work unless the original media is on your local drive or connected network drive(s).
The quicktime conversion option gives you the full range to export whatever you need. If your sequence is pro res and you need a H264 QT then thats where you would go.
