I’m looking to get line level audio into the CDMA (Verizon) iPhone and record it. I’ve seen “special” cables to connect in the 1/8″ jack, but I’ve also heard that it is only mono and has a steep rolloff at 200Hz. Has anyone seen something that connects to the 30 pin connector and allows for FULL frequency STEREO recording of LINE-LEVEL material?

There are somethings out there for 3G models and then specifically states that it doesn’t work on the 4G. I don’t know what changed, but Apple broke something.

Yes, I saw that. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any details about iPhone on the website. It says it is for iPod and there is a little footnote saying that a message was recorded by the owner using it on iPhone 3G. With the other responses on the net about things not working on the 4G, I am hesitant to buy it.

Well you could always get it on Amazon.com and send it back if no workey- that’s what I’d do…

Just out of curiosity is there a reason it has to be a phone? There are tiny little SD card recorders out there for $100 that completely blow away anything you could ever record with the iPhone. Just sayin…

I picked up this little Tascam unit to record transcription. Accepts line or mic level (menu selectable) input through the 1/8″ jack. Also has manual level adjustment.
