We are getting ready to make the move in our second edit room to work with grown up video. I’ve search the forums and around the web, but couldn’t find a definitive comparision between the Kona LS and the IO LA. What are the advantages of one over the other. Is the minimal hardware acceleration of the LS with dissolves and stuff make that much of a difference. We only have a DSR 40 and a PVW 2800. No sdi decks, but with the SDI in/outs on the LS we could hook the FCP system up to our avid SDI. Anything else I’m missing?

    Thanks,

    Rick

You can also throw the Kona LH into the mix. That gives you Analog / Digital I/O in both SD and HD. If your plans call for HD in the future and you don’t forsee a need for up-convert on the fly, that’s a great product as well.

Personally, I like the Io because it’s an external box that plays very nicely with the Kona 2. With 2 suites running here, it’s nice to be able to simply connect the box to whichever system needs it at that moment. Pretty much all of my sources are digital now with only the occassional analog source, so that works for me.
