IO HD for use with HDV 720p30
Posted by Tom Valens on November 4, 2007 at 11:57 pmCan I use the IO HD with footage from my JVC HD100 shooting HDV 720p30 (29.97)? I notice in the manual that I downloaded from the AJA site that there was no AJA 720p30 Easy Setup listed. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Thanks for the response. For the time being I would be going from the component outputs of the camera (don’t have a deck yet).

November 6, 2007 at 3:41 amI don’t know, for sure, but I doubt it’d work. 720p60 yes, but 720p30 might not.
A call or email to AJA might set you up correctly.

AJA does not currently include setups for 720p30 on any of their product line.

November 6, 2007 at 3:50 pmBut, if you made a 720p30 HDV setup, would it work? I have never worked with HDV and am not sure how the whole flagging system works (or doesn’t work). Will the ioHD be able to extract the flags over analog component video?

November 7, 2007 at 1:01 amI called AJA Tech Support and talked to Jerry, who said there shouldn’t be any problem – I just select the 720p 23.98 Easy Setup and then modify the presets for 29.98.

November 7, 2007 at 3:24 amBut how is the ioHD going to know what frames to extract? The component output is sending 720p60, no?

November 7, 2007 at 4:34 amThe component output of the JVC HD100 in HDV mode is 720p30 (or 24 if set that way). The newest JVC’s can record in 720p60, but not the HD100.

November 7, 2007 at 4:41 amHmm. Didn’t know that 720p30 could travel down the pipe like that.
If I were you I would double check with a camera and a borrowed ioHD to make sure you are getting what you want.
