Involuntary re-sizing of shots in Final Cut Pro when being copied
Hi guys I just encountered a strange problem I’ve copied a sequence from one timeline to another and all the shots have been re-sized, they are zoom in. If I click on the box above the screen and select fit to screen it’s already checked, so it thinks that its showing the whole picture but it’s not. I could click on every picture and re-size them all by hand but there are many shots in each sequence and it wories me that its done this with me doing nothing different than I’ve done a thousand times before. Has anyone encountered this problem and do you know a solution?

When you start a project and don’t use the proper Easy Setup right from the get go, the new sequences you create are all going have the wrong settings, and that can lead to big screw ups.
So, if you want to FCP to behave as it was meant to behave, you’d do best to read the manual and follow the instructions on starting new projects. Memorize the steps and follow the instructions every time you start a new project and you’ll be well on your way to fame and fortune.

Thank you David, the project was set up correctly using all the standard proceedures, I am an experienced editor and I’ve cut and pasted seuqnces from one timeline to another thousands of times but thev’e always be re-create as the original was, appart from this time, this isn’t an aspect ratio change or anything like that. There were some captions on a clour background and it’s re-sized the back ground too. It’s very eratic behaiour!

In User Prefs > Editing tab see if “Always scale clips to project size” is checked. That might be the cause.
