This is a new one for me…. I am recreating a project edited in FCP 7 and after exporting the XML and importing into Premiere Pro CC (7.2) a strange thing happened. First of all only the base video layer came through V1 (out of 6) but that’s not the weird part, even though there are no clips in the timeline for V2 I can clearly see the elements that were on that layer in the FCP 7 project.

Here is a screenshot of what I mean: https://www.dropbox.com/s/193e3q8r29bsdbc/Screen%20Shot%202013-12-12%20at%204.23.00%20PM.png

The red element is a transition flag that flies over 2 shots. You can see the flag in the monitor but THERE IS NO CLIP in the timeline. There is nothing there, nothing to select. There are only 2 layers in this example and so it is not hiding in a higher layer. At first I thought maybe it’s a render file but that’s not possible and there are no render files to delete anyway. It’s a completely empty timeline but there are clips there.

Can anybody shed some light on this mystery.

    Thanks

Here is another screenshot to illustrate the invisible clip syndrome. The green screen footage belongs on V2 and you can see it but the clip is not there. If I toggle the V2 eyeball the clip appears and disappears as it should.

This is really bugging me now….

I decided to try AAF export with automatic duck and it worked so problem solved. I guess the FCP7 sequence had something in it that the XML just didn’t like.

I have uploaded the 15MB XML file. The original FCP 7 sequence had at least 6 tracks of video and 4 tracks of audio. The Premiere version has only 1 video track and no audio. HOWEVER the media from track 2 is visible in my system even though the clips are not there. Example at 1:00:32:00 there is a green screen interview on V2. (I posted the screen grab in a previous post).
I solved the problem by using automatic duck but would like to understand what is happening here as I may need to use a FCP7 to Premiere Pro workflow a great deal in the future.

    Thank you

Great, where can I find it?

    Thanks

I am not sure if this will work – never uploaded to the COW before. Thanks for your help.
