  • Inverting layer with other noise layer?

Posted by Eric Chamberlain on September 24, 2016 at 2:28 am

Greetings. I have a comp with three layers:

    Bottom layer: plate with footage
Middle layer: adjustment layer with Invert effect, attached to alpha matte of top layer
Top layer: animated shape that moves from left to right. This layer has Turbulent Noise applied

The shape layer inverts the footage on the bottom layer as it passes over. The problem is that the turbulent noise is gone. I want the black or white from the turbulent noise to invert the footage, not the entire shape, as it does now. I’ve tried the different channels in the Invert effect. I’ve also tried the TrkMt options, as well.

I’m probably doing something fundamentally wrong so I would appreciate some help.

    Thank you.

You’ll have to precompose the layer moving all effects in order for track matte to see the effects. Without precomposing, it only uses the layer, not the applied effects.
