Hello Board, I recently (this past weekend) bought AECS4 upgrade. Installed it, but cannot run it because it freezes at start-up with “initializing Media Core”. I tried everything Adobe has on there site including re-installs, unistalling previous AE version, checking QT, you name it i have tried it but nothing worked, then i decided to call support (WORST support in this world). I talked to several low level techs who kept xffering me to departments that did not handle my case and finally did get some help from a “high Level” tech (sic). Ran the Adobe support Advisor and the sup promised to call back because it will take an 1hr to go through the process again. Never did. (of course they are in India). Anyway it looks like am on my own here. Is there any kind of help i can get from you guyz? Please help

Make sure you update to 9.02. It addresses a number of situations that led to crashes on launch. So, before anything, make sure you update to AE CS4 9.02.
MediaCore is the media/format handling layer in AE. You probably have a third party codec which doesn’t play along well. Make sure you remove third party codecs you may have, and if the application launches correctly, you can add them back one at a time until you find the culprit.

Thank you Adolfo for the quick reply. I did figure it out myself after hours of googling on the net and giving up on Adobe. I checked my media core files and removed all 3rd party plugins one by one and the culprit was Magic bullet looks. Now the software opens and runs BUT….. now i am unable to update to the newer version. This is sickening ,. It does not give me an error message just “unable to update”. It updates all the 3rd party components but does not update to the newer version. So what do i do now?

*** For those of you who find themselves in the same situation. PLEASE save your airtime by not bothering to call Adobe (I spent 2 Full days trying to get a solution) Others have reported months. Google Adobe Tech Support Complaints if you dont believe me . Anyway, this is what i did and it worked on the Mac.

    >>Under your HDD click LIbrary
    >>Appliication Support
    >>Adobe
    >>Common
    >> Plugins
    >> choose your CS version

Create a folder on your desktop and move all 3rd party plugins from your plugins folder to the desktop. Then all you do is re-start AE and it should come up. Then you have to return the plugins one by one back to the plugins folder while you restart and close AE until you find the problem.

Alternatively you can run a software Adobe provides (which took a supervisor at tech support to tell me) called ASA (Adobe support Advisor) and it will let you know excatly whats wrong. Dont rely on it either. It never fixed my problem

Yes, I understand there are some issues with Magic Bullet. I suggest you contact them to learn their plans.
As for not being able to update, there’s now probably something missing in your AE install.
So, as painful as it is, I would recommend using the installer or Add/Remove programs control panel to uninstall, then install again (without Magic Bullet, of course), and then update to 9.02.

I am sorry to hear about your problem with tech support.
Let me say that this troubleshooting procedure is described in the technical support documents about crashes in AE. If you let me know which OS you use (XP/Vista/MAc OS), I’ll be happy to point you to the specific document.
In any case, this is why people like Todd and I try to be available on web forums to help users. Not to mention the amazing community of AE users 🙂

Thank You again for the response.Let me address your suggestions

1.Yes, i am planning on contacting Magic Bullet. As for the re-install i have done that 3 times!!! I even went to the Adobe site and Downloaded AE as a trial then inserted my serial number (without Magic Bullet) but it still will not update. It’s been a week just trying to get this thing running.

2.Even though i have searched through the Adobe support site with the help of the AE community (including your own posts), i am open to your suggestion on checking it again.I am on the Mac OS running the latest version. Send me the link please.
