Interpret Footage
Sorry, this question should have gone to After Effects.
I shoot with a Canon HV30 which uses the HDV format. When I import some so called 24p footage into AE it is actually 24 progressive sequential scan. That’s OK, I think, as both fields were shot at the same instant thus the deinterlaced frame is progressive. Am I correct about p vs. psf? .
The footage also has 3:2 pull down. My question relates to the interpret footage dialogue. It opens giving me a choice between a frame rate same as the footage and indicates 29.97 or to conform to whatever I want (suggesting 29.97). I am leaving this alone as I think, due to the 3:2 pull down that the file really is 29.97. I then go on to separate the fields (upper first) and instruct AE to guess at the pull down. Then, I put the resulting footage into a 23.97 comp. It seems to look right in the comp viewer. Is this the right work-flow?
Thanks
