Anybody have this issue and what is your work-around.

I am using an AJA Io-la Firewire box. When editing, I am cutting to the sound and pic coming out of the AJA box on my external NTSC monitor/audio mixer. But the FCP edit window is out-of-sync with the sound due to a delay going through the AJA box.

The problem is, if I cut and then lay to tape through the AJA box, everything’s in sync. BUT, if I stay all internal and go to QT or compressor to make a DVD, the audio is out-of-sync due to the audio delay caused by the AJA box while the video is not being delay and staying internal.

Is there anyway around this delay issue other than having to move all my audio tracks after I lay to tape before I make a DVD?

    Thanks in advance!

Don’t see how that could be, unless you were “mixing” your monitor sources.
During the edit, you should NOT monitor audio from the mac and video thru the card… or vise versa.

When you edit, you MUST either monitor BOTH audio and video EITHER from the Mac and Canvas… OR both from the AJA (or other DV convertor, like a camcorder or deck.)

That way, no matter how you “export”, the A/V will have been cut with the same delay.

No possible. Anything you do internally such as exporting a Quicktime Movie is not affected by the AJA box. The box is ONLY used for capturing and monitoring.

As for your audio and video being out of sync, you can adjust how the audio and video playback using the Playback Offset control. Generally with the Io you run with a 4 for the offset though I’ve seen some people run it as high as 7.

But unfortunately, the Playback Offset will make your keyboard to be not quite as snappy. This is why a capture card is superior to any Io box. If you are cutting DV or with an Io box, it’s best to monitor only what you see on the NTSC monitor and with audio speakers connected to the Io, NOT the Mac. If you connect via FireWire, you need to live with the delay. Playback Offset doesn’t work for me as I can’t stand a spongy keyboard.
