    HI;

    Been using Vegas Pro 9.0e for a while now and living with this annoyance. Finally decided to holler for help.

    Problem does not happen with consistency or a discernible pattern. I have two events on the timeline, the one on the left has a fade out to black, the one on the right has a fade in from black. Ditto audio fade out to silence/fade in from silence. When I slide the events so that they “kiss”, the fades vanish and I see a cross-fade indicator of 0:00:00 length. After this happens, the left event will no longer have the little blue “fade out” corner, but the right event will still have the fade handle.

    This does not happen with all events, and I can’t see any pattern related to length. Will happen even when I don’t have any fades on the events prior to sliding them together. As a work around I’ve been carefully positioning the events so that there is a single frame gap between them, but this is a real pain.

    I’ve tried every possible combination of options related to snapping, ripple, auto cross-fade over the last few weeks. I’m ready to go bat-poop crazy at this point.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

    Hi;

    Sorry to respond to my own post so soon, but I’m ready to leap out the window. Below are screen shots of the same project, and the event on the left is the same event from my first post; in that post, it is the event on the right. (in other words, I have simply advanced in the timeline to the next transition to the right of the problem in the first post). For this transition, the problem does not happen! I can separate the events and then make them “kiss” again, and the transitions do not disappear, and both fade handles remain in place. MADNESS!

    Please help …

    Steve,

    I suspect that at some point you deselected “quantize to frames” and your video has been moved a fraction of a frame. Later when “quantize to frames” is back on and the second event “kisses” the first event, it snaps to a frame boundary and they actually overlap less than 1 frame and hence the 0:00 cross-fade. This would explain how the problem “does not happen with consistency or a discernible pattern”.

    “quantize to frames” is (to my knowledge) for working with audio when you want to move it independent of frame boundaries.

    See if I am right by moving things around while quantize is off and your timeline is zoomed in enough to see the fractional frame.
