intermittent capture problem
I’ve been capturing mini-DV footage into PPro 1.5 through firewire from my Sony GV-D1000 (clamshell) with no problems, but occasionally, for no reason that I can discern, when I turn everything on and open the capture window, I get a “device offline” and no matter what I do, PPro (or my OS?) won’t recognize my device. I’ve tried re-booting with the device turned on, turned off, turning it on after the machine has booted but I’ve not yet opened PPro, turning it on after I open PPro, and none of these work–the device still isn’t being recognized when I open the capture window.
My OS is Win XP professional. Any thoughts out there? Thanks-

Looks like you might need a new firewire cable.

I had the same problem recently. Switched off Symantec Anti-virus 2005 and haven’t had a problem since. Not sure where the logic is in that but it did the trick. Enabling it again brings the same problem back immediately.
We use Sony DSR-45’s as feeders into our Avid based system under WinXP and often loose the firewire connection, which requires a restart.
