  • Interlacing when shrinking the frame???

Posted by Stephan on March 27, 2006 at 4:17 am

I am having a problem getting rid of interlacing with some clips that i have shrunk??

I have placed two videos clips into a DV-NTSC FCP template and shrunk them to 48% so they are side by side on the 720×480 screen. No matter what i do, filter, changing the Sequence settings i still get interlacing in the video becuase I have shrunk them and then appears in the video i export out to DVD Studio Pro.

Is there any way to get rid of this???

48% probably isn’t a good number. Use 50% and see if it looks better. There wouldn’t be any field interpolation. Just field subtraction, which should eliminate any noticeable interlacing.

    Hi Bret,

thanks for the advice. It didn’t work however. I still have interlacing in the final output. The frustrating thing is that it looks perfect in the Green RT band mode. go figure.

    Any other ideas?

apply deinterlace to the source clip, nest it and scale the nest. the same technique can be used to solve many similar problems.

wait, i have to reply to myself here. it’s the other way around. filters are always applied before motion, so you shouldn’t have this problem. but if you ever have the opposite problem my suggestion will probably come in handy. 🙂
