Okay, here’s my problem… I’ve got HD 1920×1080 29.97fps footage that I import into after effects and for some reason I’m getting interlacing artifacts wherever fast motion occurrs. The footage interpretation settings have “separate fields” option off, frame rate is the same 29.97… i get the interlacing issue both inside after effects (working at full rez with no proxies, full quality) and after render (animation codec).

don’t know how to fix this, and i’m dying here, on a deadline.

    any help appreciated!

If you are moving, scaling, rotating, blurring or otherwise distorting (even slightly) the clip, you need to separate fields if the footage was shot interlaced.

(However, if, before import into AE, you see alternating fat and thin field lines on the footage, then somebody scaled up SD footage improperly, and you need to find the original. But I don’t think that’s the problem here.)

Try separating fields, lower field first. If that doesn’t work, try upper first.

(if I understand your problem …)
