  • Interlacing artifacts on 108024p footage

    Hello Forum,

I may have my own answer on this. I shot some 1080 24p footage of a
piano keyboard with my HVX200. I used a dolly (homemade) to move camera left to right and right to left. Call it up and down the keyboard.

I used the Log and Transfer method to bring the footage into FCP from the P2 card. I then imported the clip to my broswer. When I play this clip on the viewer it shows severe interlacing artifacts.

For information, my sequence is a 60i timeline and my “Easy Setup” is set for HDV 1080/60i. I had not put the clip on the timeline, I merely was viewing it by double clicking the clip in the browser.

I can import the clip using Calibrated Softwares mxf import (which is set for removing pulldown, etc) and the clip show no interlacing artifacts.

Can I assume that I should import the clip (if I desire to use Log and Transfer) to a project with appropriate settings for the HVX200 1080 24p?

Thanks for a very helpful forum.

Did you shoot 1080p24 or 1080 24PA? PA means that L&T in FCP will remove the pulldown..the redundant frames…and get you to 23.98. but just regular 24p is the 24frame LOOK in a 29.97 video stream.

    Hello Shane,

Thanks for the reply! Sorry I am so late in responding. This forum is too good to miss. I did not shoot in the 24PA mode, but in the 24p mode (just like my HV20). Now I have learned something about L&T that I did not know before, complements of your sentence where you mention that 24PA gets its pulldown removed.

    Thanks Again,

    Eric
