Interlace Issue
Hi there:
We are using a Kona LH with a Quad G5 2.5 10.4.2 and FCP 5.0.3. For analogue capture, we are using a Beta SP PVW 2800 to capture footage. We seem to have an interlace issue when we view the captured QT’s within QT Player. Within the FCP viewer and on a CRT there is no interlace issue. After creating a sequence which has the captured Beta SP footage and some titles and moving graphics we write to a QT uncompressed 8 bit QT which when viewed in the QT player still has the interlace issue especially with any movement within the Beta SP footage or the graphics. Again when we view the QT or the sequence on a CRT monitor there is no interlace issue.
When we use the QT in Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 or Compressor, the interlace issue becomes more predominant due to the compression codecs we are using.
My question to the forum is: Is there any way to get rid of the interlace issue if our final use is a file that will not be played back on a CRT monitor? I’m aware that LCD & Plasma’s are progressive scan as compared to the CRT which is an interlace two fields monitor. We are using the de-interlace filter in FCP which is a band-aid fix. But it does diminish the quality of our final QT master and looks really bad on playbcak on a CRT monitor. We have spoken to Rudy at AJA who is going to pass this issue on to some engineers and we are also speaking with Blackmagic, Luke Malsen and Kristian, as the same issue is on our SP and HD cards on two separate systems.
Any input would be appreciated.
