Interlace errors when rendering to dvd from Vegas 10
Hello, I have searched far and wide, and haven’t found an exact reference that matches my dilema. I have 2 Sony AVCHD SR12 cameras, which record 1920×1080 60i video. I have been using Vegas since purchasing these cameras (3+ years) and only recently started having this issue when rendering for dvd with the default templates to export to DVDA 5.2. I think it came with the upgrade from 9-10 (9 and 8 never had this issue with same cameras video).
When I render, i get horrible horiozontal interlace zig zags with any motion. If i check “reduce interlace flicker” on the properties of each clip, it clears that up but introduces some more minor, but still noticable, vertical banding with motion. I have done a complete reinstall, even clearing out the registry of all sony products (sound forge won’t register again, but that’s another post)
to try to eliminate some stored preferences, but something must be wrong. Can someone send me some advice or screenshots of the defaults for DVD Architect Widescreen SD video, as rendered from a HD 1920×1080 60i project (what vegas tells itself to match my media)
Checking reduce interlace flicker helps – but still produced poor results – and i need to correct it to avoid subpar renders. MPEG2 HD and AVC HD renders do not exhibit this problem. I also switched my camrea settings to record x.v color a while back – could this be my problem?Thank you for any clues.

Uncheck ‘reduce interlace flicker’ for the event. It is intended for stills.
Check your Project Properties Deinterlace method is set to ‘Blend Fields’
Render using a default Mainconcept mpeg-2 DVDA template for your region i.e. NTSC. Change nothing else and see how you go.

yes, i have done that…. pretty sure all my settings with that default ARE set to default, but i don’t know. would you mind posting project and render screenshots from yoru machine for me to check? wish i could post some small clips. I tried one route – rendered a bluray mpeg2 file (which is fine, i’m making bd discs of the same project) then let Archetect do the work – that yieled a good disc with no errors, yet it took 9 hours to rerender the video – and i burned a 2nd disc while it was loaded, and saved iut. return to architect wanted to rerender the hd mpeg2 file again, so i stopped.

Search the forum, as there have been lots of posts similar to yours. Responses by John Rofrano are particularly good and detailed.
Your settings may not be default, judging by your original post. I suspect your original problems all stem to the Deinterlacing method.
To be sure about your defaults, you can force Vegas to return to its default settings….
DVDA should not be re-rendering your video if you are using the DVDA templates in Vegas correctly.

how do you restore vegas to all defaults? I did the uninatall thing once already, and i have yet to call and get my sound forge to register correctly. Yes, i understand using the proper template makes DVDA not have to rerender – it was just an experiment really, and it made the video clean – no interlating errors. i’ll keep searching… i think my settings just need fixing, since i never had these errors until recently (at some point either after installing 10, or one of the updates since, all a b c d and e were installed at one point.

Hold down Ctrl-Shift when starting Vegas resets (most) settings to default.

Well, strange – I began trying some old presents i had saved, which were variations of the MPEG2 Widescreen for DVD Architect, with different bitrates for different lengths, and they worked – with no interlace errors! So my default DVD Architech MPEG2 Widescreen default is bad. Still can’t figure out exactly what’s wrong with it, since settings seem similar to these i built a while back (originally modifications from that same default) I have made a new 6mpbs preset and will use it instead. Thanks for everyone’s feedback. Vegas Pro still rules!
