interesting problem with video clip
we have a 2 camera shoot that we are going to multiclip. For some reason, there are timecode breaks all over the place throughout the footage. We didn’t shoot it, so I’m not entirely sure why. Anyway, so in order to get one long clip for the multicam edit we just unchecked the make new clip on timecode break.
Everything captures fine, when I open the clip from finder in quicktime player I can watch the whole thing. But, for some reason in Final Cut it only gives me a short segment of the entire hour and a half piece. We’ve done this twice, on two different machines. The first time the clip showed that it was about 8 minutes long, the second time it only gave me 4.5 minutes. That’s the background of our problem.
The question is how I get Final Cut to recognize the entire clip? Is it only giving me the clip up until the first timecode break that it saw, and if so, why is it different on the two different machines? Also, I’ve done this several times before with Timecode break problems and never had this problem.
One thing we just thought, but haven’t tried yet, will try soon, is to try to capture without device control so that it will rewrite timecode? I’m not even 100% sure that the timecode is the complete problem. Anyway, any help would be much appreciated.
