Intensity Pro card on a G5
Posted by Mark Whitmore on May 10, 2007 at 3:54 pmHas anyone used the Intenity Pro card in a G5 or do you have to upgrade to an Intel Box? Anyone know if they will make it for older model macs?

May 11, 2007 at 6:15 amHi Mark,
Intensity and Intensity Pro do not work on G5’s and you would need to use a Mac Pro. We designed the Intensity cards to work on G5’s as well as PC’s and Mac Pro computers. However there is a bug in a chip that just affects G5’s and we’ve been pushing the chip manufacturers to fix it but that hasn’t happened. There are three parties pointing fingers at each other so I would not count on G5-compatibility even though we will continue to push for this. It’s very frustrating and we even delayed the release of the Intensity card for a couple of months thinking that this problem was going to be resolved but it’s now half a year later and we’ve seen no sign of real progress. We’ll keep pushing the chip manufacturers to solve the problem for G5’s and we’ll certainly post information on our web site and in this forum if it does get fixed.

May 11, 2007 at 12:48 pmThanks Luke,
Considering how reasonably priced the intensity card is, it just makes
sense that we’d have to spend a lot of money on a new mac just to use it.
Murphy’s law I guess, thanks for your insight. Might have to do some
mac shopping.Mark
