    Intensity and a FW800 G4, is it possible

    Hello,
    Is there any way to add a PCI Express slot to a MDD G4 so I can use the very smart and convenient Intensity card or am I just out of luck? The bulk of my work is shot with the DVC Pro HD and HDV and I would love to use this card to mix the two together as well as use it for external monitoring. Is there some sort of motherboard upgrade I can pay for to have a PCIe slot added to my G4 or will I need to buy a 2500 dollar mac to use the 245 dollar card?

    Sorry Harvey,

    Sounds like you’re out of luck. I’m not aware of any way to add a PCIExpress slot to a G4.

    Hi Harvey,

    All of our HD products require a G5 and we’ve never done HD on the G4 as the bus speeds just weren’t fast enough. This means you would need at least a G5 with PCI Express or a Mac Pro.

    Thanks for the info gentlemen. I appreciate the prompt reply. The idea of buying a used G5 just to integrate the Intensity card into my work flow sounds a little crazy, but I’m definitely considering it. The card is a very smart concept.
