  • Installing MC on a system with PrPro CC and FCP X

    Hi guys.
Would love to hear your views on this.
I’m a long time editor currently using PrPro CC and FCP X. I started out on the MC. One of my clients is asking me to get MC now. I use MC two weeks a year for another client.
My question is, on both my MacPro (cheese grater) and retina MBP 15″, I have installed Adobe CC and FCP X with various plug-ins and haven’t had any major problems.
Is it okay to install MC subscription on the same system?
Is it going to cause any problems as I have the other apps installed already?
If I don’t get the dongle option, can I only use MC on one system?
    Thanks guys.

I have no problems and have FCP 7 legacy installed to boot along with Lightworks.

What version of MC? And what OS version? Avid isn’t compatible with the latest OS, 10.10.3.

Oh yes. Shane, now I remember you mentioning it elsewhere. It’s the latest version of the OS. Wanted to get the latest ver of MC subscription. Will wait till Avd support this ver of Mac OS then.
Am actually quite excited about the new MC. Been watching tutorials and feature videos the last two days:)

I have a MacBook Pro 15 (late 2014 model) running OS X 10.10.3 (currently) and have Adobe CC with PPro, FCP 7, FCP X, and Avid MC ver 8.3 and DaVinci Resolve Lit 11.3 all installed.
All run fine. Occasionally each have issues, but none that could be attributed to the presence of each other.

The order of install was like this…

    MBP delivered with MacOSX 10.9.x
Installed Final Cut Studio. Edited a project.
Installed DaVinci Resolve Lite (was ver 10 at that time I think)
Weeks later, Installed FCP X, Compressor X and Motion X (before this install, I moved FCS into another folder and did what’s specified at Apple’s support page for FCP 7 and X on same system)
Some months later, Installed Avid MC v 8

Over the next few months upgraded FCP X and Avid as updates became available. Same for Resolve Lite

A few weeks ago I installed OS X 10.10 as an upgrade not fresh install

Upgraded Resolve, FCP X, and Avid MC as updates became available.

System still works fine for all these software.

    My use is,
Resolve mostly, and for transcoding and dailies grading
    FCP X for quick edits
Avid MC for troubleshooting others’ Avid edits, syncing audio, and making AAFs
Premiere Pro rarely. I installed it just because its there in CC.
I use Media Encoder, Encore, Muse in that order.

Thanks for the detailed response Neil. Good to know that your MC runs on the latest OS fine. After reading Shane’s post, I checked Avid’s support page. Says that the latest version has not been tested and certain Macs don’t play well. But MBP should be fine, I guess.
