Installing DE:Noise and problem with FCP quitting

You must be running FCS2. And De:noise is an fxplug, not a regular plug in so it goes to your LIbrary > Plugins > FXPlug folder.

Delete it from the plug in folder.

Thanks for the clarification… I did delete it, but the problem hasn’t gone away- it’s still quitting and saying I need to render everything. Do you have any other ideas for fixing this? Does it appear that I need to uninstall FCP and reinstall it? I just don’t want to have to do that with all the other apps in the suite.

Sounds like you screwed something up pretty bad. You can choose a custom install form your FCP install disks and choose only FCP. Then run software update again.

Are you running FCS2?

If you installed DE:Noise for FCP, then You need to delete it from the DE:Noise.fxplug plugin file from /Library/Plugins/FxPlug folder. Have you deleted our FxPlug and then tried restarting FCP?

Did you install the AE version somewhere and move it to the FCP plugins folder? If so, then you need to delete that from the appropriate FCP plugins folder.

However, I suspect that you are having a larger issue with FCP. We have not had any reports like yours, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have a problem.

After deleting the plugin, you might also try deleting the file “Final Cut Pro Obj Cache”. It’s found in your home directory ( /Users/”your login account”), then go to the Library directory, then the Preferences directory, then the “Final Cut Pro User Data” directory.

It’s a file that’s built when FCP starts up and stores lots of things, like parameters for plugins. Because the first time you ran FCP our plugin didn’t load, FCP may be having a problem with this cache file.

Warning: you may lose other preferences (but after you try all the other suggestions above, you may not have much of a choice… . We think the file we are telling you delete is a fairly benign thing to do and you shouldn’t lose any important prefs, however Apple doesn’t tell us what is in each cache file for FCP.

If you are in a time crunch, then before deleting the “Final Cut Pro Obj Cache” file you should make a copy of it and save it somewhere else, then delete it from the directory described above. If important prefs or other favorites go away then you can put the file back (however, if you put the file back then you can’t run our plugins until you delete that file).

After reading your email in another thread I think the problem is that you have installed out plugin into FCP’s package contents. So remove that copy. The version that is put on your hard disk with the manual is just for reference and need not be installed anywhere. When you ran the installer also put a copy in /Library/Plug-ins/FxPlug. So leave the copy in /Library/Plug-ins/FxPlug and remove the copy you manually put into FCP’s package contents. Hopefully this will fix your problem.

Thank you for your answer. But to be clear, as soon as it started quitting, that was the first thing I did- I manually deleted the plug in file that I had manually put into the package content’s plug ins. But even after I did this and restarted, it still didn’t work. I hope that it will with this reinstall of FCP… But I’m wondering if you can tell me where the DE:Noise filter should show up in FCP- will it be in the effects tab?

First: you might read the email I posted to another thread you started (about deleting an FCP preferences file that might be causing you a problem).

You might also consider running Disk Utility on your disk and checking for any problems that might have happened because of the initial crash.

Second: DE:Noise should show up in the Effects->Video Filters->RE:Vision Plugins submenu (or, equivalenty, in the Effects tab, under Video Filters->RE:Vision Plug-ins.
