installed latest quicktime now FCP won’t load
Posted by Latisha Willis on January 29, 2008 at 8:27 pmHello all,
I just updated Quicktime and now I’m getting the following:
The application final cut pro hd quit unexpectedly
I’m using FCP 4.5 on a powerbook g4.
Any fixes? Please be detailed.Paul Escandon replied 18 years, 3 months ago 4 Members · 5 Replies -

January 29, 2008 at 8:34 pmHmm.. did you upgrade to Quicktime 7.4? If so, that’s causing a lot of problems for a lot of people – so I’m not totally suprised.
First, give trashing your preferences a try. Delete the pref file in User > Library > Preferences > Final Cut Pro User Data.
When you relaunch and it still crashes – I’d say think about downgrading to Quicktime 7.3 (this is assuming you are now using Quicktime 7.4). Instructions for that can be found here: https://www.paulescandon.com/blog/?p=39
I hope one of these methods work for you.

January 29, 2008 at 8:42 pmI would probably not be running Quicktime 7 at all with FCP 4.5 unless that was running at the same time FCP 4.5 was still the most recent version.
QT 7.4 is causing all kinds of havoc with the current FCP, as has been very well documented in this forum, so I would suspect that is your main cause. Step back to an older version of Quicktime.

January 29, 2008 at 9:03 pmA few of our machines are still running 4.5. A few months back some joker ran software update on them bringing QT to 7.2 i believe. The computers FCP performance slowed to a near halt. The computers were rendered near useless the lag was so bad. once we figured out the problem, we had to wipe them all clean for a fresh install to get things back to normal.
From what I understand QT 7.x was never made to support FCP 4.5. 7.0 and 7.1 work ok, but beyond that first you will see performance issues, and it seems now perhaps a FCP total shutdown.
Ours are back to QT 6.5 with FCP 4.5 and running great again.
These days the administrative password is kept secret (as it should always have been in any multi-user setting)

Thank you so much. It worked. I really hope Apple responds by warning users of the potential for complete disruption of work flow associated with this problem. Thanks again
