  • Install AMC 2.6.6 onto laptop freeze on Initialise Audio

Posted by Alex Bond on December 8, 2010 at 4:08 pm

    Hi all,

I managed to install AMC 2.8.1 onto a HP laptop with windows XP SP3 but I needed to retrograde it to AMC 2.6.6

After much wrangling and deleting any evidence of 2.8.1 on the machine, I reinstalled 2.6.6 and it still believes there is a newer version of Avid in place which I need to delete – I’ve had to ignore this for now as I can’t see anything else to delete..so it continued to install, reboot etc.

But when I load AMC 2.6.6 it reaches the stage of Initialising Audio and freezes – any ideas? Is it the audio or is that coincidence? Are there bits of the old version left that need to go?

Is the Service Pack too high? Unlikely as it worked with 2.8.1

    Any help gratefully received, cheers.

I ran into a problem when initializing audio, and it really ended up being a graphics card firmware issue. Check the version you have and see if there is an updated version or not.

    Cheers Michael,

I’ll have a look – the bugger is it all worked fine with 2.8.1!

Updated the firmware, graphics card is Geforce 7400 and works fine with 2.8.1 – 2.6.6 still crashes, any other ideas?

    Cheers

I’ve reverted back to 2.8.1, reinstalled it but have the same error- the laptop was fine before I tried any of this, does that add any more information?
