  • Inserting and Deleting on the Timeline (between in/out points)

Is there an easy way of deleting everything on the timeline between an in and out point. Other NLE systems I use allow you to mark in/out and cut (Ctrl-X). This deleted the footage and shifts the timeline up to fill the gap. In Vegas I have to go to in point, Split Clip. go to out point, split clip. Then click on the bit in the middle and delete it. Not only is this fiddly even with ripple turned on it still seems to screw things up on a regular basis. Am I missing something.

For inserting in other NLE you mark the in/out point in the clip, go to the place on the timeline and insert it (or overwrite it). With Vegas I have not found a way to do an insert, only a overwrite.

Getting the hang of Vegas but any pointers much appreciated,
    Ben

I simply drag an I/O point on the timeline, then press Delete – all good!

make sure to start the drag anywhere but on a clip, eg above the timeline, otherwise you’re just moving the clip.

To insert time, again make your selection, and then right click – EMPTY EVENT, or place your cursor at the start of the insert and choose INSERT/TIME. You could turn that into a shortcut too, I suppose.

Odd, I must have be in the wrong mode or something. When I press delete it does not work (I think it does nothing ;(.

Will Try the insert thing tonight, I guess what you are saying is you insert time then drag the clip into the gap. So I guess I need to know exactly how long the clip is.
