Hi. I would like to get some basic information about making music videos. I’ve used Sony Vegas a bit in the past with poor success because of an inadequate laptop, but I now have a new souped-up desktop PC at my disposal. I’ve also had problems because I was using a little Sanyo Xacti camera with H264 (I think that’s the file type) – overly compressed.

I would like to start again now. I have a number of songs I’ve written and I want to make little videos to go with them, and then sync the original audio to the new videos I make, using Vegas.

I want to know first: what type of digital video should I be using? I’m assuming that the Xacti file type is too compressed and not going to give me the results I want — or is that incorrect? I really don’t want to use videotape. Is there any type of video camera that is not expensive that I could purchase to make my life easier, that does not use tape? I can spend up to $1000. (I’m asking in this forum because I intend to use Vegas to do my editing) — any other tips MUCH appreciated. I am an amateur and a certain degree of primitiveness is acceptable as part of my aesthetic (Lemons to Lemonade here).

    Thank you!!

Is your computer an i7? I recomment the Panasonic HDC-TM700. It makes AVCHD .mts files, also highly compressed but my i7 worked with then great. This camers can shoot 1080 60p and it’s the best looking video I’ve ever seen. It’s only $738.00 here.

It has 32 gig flash memory internal and can capture 2 hours and 40 min at 1080 60p. I believe it was voted Camcorder of year 2010.

Go to YouTube and watch some of the videos where they compare it to highend cameras.
