Ingesting AVCHD into FCP with Log and Transfer
Folks,
Forgive my ignorance on this. I’ve just moved across to a Macbook pro and FCP. I’m using a Sony HDR-12e camcorder which stores AVCHD files as MTS streams on a harddisk. The camera connects to the MAC via USB 2.0.
I’ve been trying to ingest the files following the FCP manual using Log and Transfer, the problem is;
1) The camera is just seen as a hard disk and is not detected by FCP (as discussed in the manual)
2) when I try to ingest the files directly I’m told the file structure and files are not supported.I must be doing something really stupid ?
Can anyone help me ?

If Log and Transfer won’t work, then look at CLIPWRAP2. Sometimes the consumer grade camcorders won’t be seen by FCP…but Clipwrap2 does a great job.

Sorry I’ve missed the relevance of CLIPWRAP2, according to website it converts the MTS files and places them in a new wrapper. Would this then allow the files to be imported with log and transfer ?

No. This will convert the footage to QT that you then just import into FCP…via dragging into a bin, or FILE>IMPORT. ClipWrap2 will do the conversion to ProRes for you. Get the demo…it’s free. Check it out.

Wow what a great programme simple and effective and a great price as well.
I’m shooting at 1920x1080i 25 fps, so I’ve converted to Prores 422 would this be the right format ?
It seems to have come out well.
