Incompatible format?
Hi all,
I am very new to Final Cut… as in, just started using it last week!
I have several videos exported from Final Cut as Quicktimes. They are about 45 mins each, so they should easily fit on DVDs. When I open DVD Studio Pro and try to import the Quicktimes as assets, however, an error message says that they are in an Incompatible Format.
I have looked at the manuals, but from what I can tell, Studio Pro should be able to convert from Quicktime, so I am not sure what the issue is. Being new to this program, I am thinking there is just some simple setting I may be missing?
Any advice would be appreciated!

Quicktime is just a player. It plays many different formats. We’d have to know what video format you’re using to answer the question.
Tell us what the footage you are editing is within Final Cut and what settings you used when exporting it.

To export the sequence, I click on File > Export > Quicktime Movie. Then I get to choose where to save the movie, and there are several options for settings. I had left them all as they were…. I am not sure what default the setting is (says Setting > Current Setting), but the other options are Include > Audio & Video; Markers > None; and Make Self-contained Movie.
I had not changed any of the setting, as I thought that the defaults would of course be compatible with the DVD authoring software.

That’s all correct assuming that your original footage is something standard like DV. What format are you editing with?
(Oh, and as long as the DVD is being made on this same computer, you can UN-check “Make Self Contained” in that export. That will save you a lot of hard drive space. Only use it if you’re going to take the Quicktime file or DVD Studio Pro Project to another computer.)

Ah, I see…. the original footage was DV, NTSC. Brought in via Firewire from a Panasonic Mini DV camera.
I will definitely undo the self-contained movie option, though, since I am working on multiple videos and could use all the drive space I can get!
