  • In Premiere CS4, to after effects, back to premiere & then a Problem..

When I originally started my project, it was edited in premiere, then I thought I read “replace with AE composition” was what I supposed to do (more on that later) to get it into after effects for some effects & Color correcting , then back into premiere. Only thing is, now that I am back in premiere wanting to add a couple transitions and sound efx, the only project in my timeline is the “AE inked file” (all effected but not giving me the option of seeing the 40 or so cuts from the single files) ..? its like it has replaced my cuts with just one file and for the life of me I cant figure out how to bring back the full edits!!
( I’m sure it had something to do with that damn replace with AE Comp =keyword I guess is REPLACE -but I didnt know it then ) Do you know what I did wrong OR if there is any way in hell to get back my original edit cuts in the timeline in replace of the one single AE file?
btw, I cant go back to the autosave file as I have been trying to figure this out so long that it has saved beyond that point.. I tried.

    hope that made sense..

I am in CS4 master collection on a pc..

Well, I’ve never done it the way you explained, I always imported my Premiere project into AE and then exported from AE.

But, if the 1 file you’re talking about plays fine in the timeline, can’t you just take the razorblade tool and cut the points where you want your transitions? Your sound effects can still be added where you need them right? Or is this 1 file you’re talking about not playable?

Sorry, since I’ve never done it this way I’m not sure exactly what you’re seeing.

    Hey Miguel…

    I think you are hosed.
If you re-read my post….”if you are at picture lock” was a prerequisite of the workflow.

in the future might want to save a copy of your sequence prior to doing the replacement…just in case…

in your ppro sequence with the AE replacement comp…

Make the changes on a higher video layer…

then copy just the new clips from PPro

Switch to AE and paste them in.

Thwey will then land at the right time in AE and you can finish the effect…

As you are updating the comp in AE…

the changes will now be contained in the replacment comp on the video track in PPro… so you can right click the clips on the upper track and disable them so you don’r see them, but at least those edits will still be there…

    make sense?

    Alex
