IMX Beach Ball Syndrome
Has anybody experienced the “Beach Ball” syndrome using IMX? I have a G5 Dual 2.7 gig processors with 4.5 gig of RAM using OS 10.4.2 and FCP 5.02. When I use it with IMX and edit onto an IMX timeline, my system after a few moments will become sluggish and the beach ball shows up everytime I do anything. Its kinda like its redrawing the screen because I can hear my processor fans spin up everytime it occurs. It makes editing in IMX very slow. Anybody with the same problem?

You’ve got something else causing this. We’ve got dozens of editors all cutting IMX footage for both off-line and and line. We are using the IMX codec and do not see the SBBD like you’re describing.

Well, are you using the AJA Kona2 in your setups? I’m just wondering if its a Kona2 problem with Quicktime. But see the strange thing here is that my system will work very well for about a half an hour then it starts getting slow and you hear the processors winding up when it accesses the drives. So…. I’m leaning to the idea it may be a Tiger 10.4.2 and Quicktime 7.01. I don’t know but I’m guessing.

We connect via firewire, no AJA cards or ext box. Off-line RT for off-line work. We’re using the new IMX native codec for on-line resolution.
