    Importing x264 mp4 files into sony vegas 10 – green screen?

    Any time I try to use an x264 encoded video file in sony vegas, I get a solid green video as shown here: .

    Is there a reason it’s doing this, and is there a way to fix it? Accessing the media properties shows this:

    I’m using 10.0e, these files upload to youtube just fine, but cannot be displayed in vegas, and they look really… funky… in Premiere, as shown:

    Wow I am a complete fool, I was encoding with 10bit x264 by accident.
    Instead of erasing my idiocy, I’ll leave it here and hope it helps someone else -_-

    Thanks for sharing your idiocy, but I don’t quite understand what you fixed, so maybe my idiocy is at a higher level. 🙂

    I too am getting the green screens in preview, but not in the tracks. I also am getting sketchy results when rendering these clips.

    Can you further explain what your issue was, and the steps you used to fix it?

    I had rendered the original video using the 10bit version of x264 instead of the 8bit version. 10bit is for professional workflows, not general consumer workflows.

    You may try installing x264’s vfw codec (64bit if you’re using 64bit vegas, of course)

    Even fixing that, however, vegas still doesn’t play nice with x264 encoded files. There’s artifacts all over, at least in my testing.
