  • Importing VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB Unix Executable Files into FCP

Posted by Janet Baus on December 10, 2009 at 11:38 pm

I received footage with the following directory and Log and Transfer won’t recognize it. My G5 does not have an intel processor–is this the problem?

Is there software that will let me import these without Intel?

    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VIDEO_TS.VOB
    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB

    Thanks in advance!

    Janet

    Or MPEG STREAMCLIP: https://www.square5.com

Convert to a format you find in the EASY SETUPS

I agree with Shane about MPEG STREAMCLIP.
Or you could mess around with VLC Media Player’s export options which is also a freebie download, but if I recall, MPEG STREAMCLIP has more export options.

VLC Player have no export options.

[Rafael Amador] “VLC Player have no export options.”

I suppose I meant to say “transcode” options instead of “export” options. They are there in VLC. Any time I’ve “transcoded” anything, I’ve expected an “exported” file as a result.
However, as I agreed with Shane, MPEG STREAMCLIP is a better and still free resource for this task.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

I downloaded Mpeg Streamclip, opened the DVD, fixed the timecode breaks, but every time I try to export it in one of the Easy Setup formats it says:

Error: can not create the file.

    Any ideas?

The truth is that would be great that VLC could export.

I can vouch for MPEG Streamclip…. It’s a staple here at our shop where we often need to pull clips off of aircheck DVD’s for use in Promos.

Of course if the .VOB files are encrypted, you will need to get another piece of software to unencrypt them before you can use them in Streamclip. However these are regarded as greyware and I’m sure I will get blasted if I recommend any of them here… 😛

    Hi Jonathan,
I think that the encryption works for the disk, no for the files inside. Once you have theVOBs in aHD, there is nothing to de-encrypt.

Is not the first time that some body have to rip his own protected DVDs. Those programs are not illegal. Illegal may be the use that you give it.

[Janet Baus] “Error: can not create the file.”

As I recall, MPEG Streamclip says this when you try to save your exported file to a place it cannot write to (like the source DVD). This might not be the problem, but you could try a different location. Usually when I can see the footage in Streamclip, I can also export it…
