Importing to FCP
Hi guys, here is my problem. I’ve already edited a few projects in FCP using footage I captured from MiniDV tapes and that was all fine getting the footage in the project and editing smoothly with them.
Now, however, I want to edit with some other footage that I did not capture. They’re contained in MKV files and are 720p30. It took me a lot of searching but I concluded that the best way is to use Quicktime Pro 7 to convert these MKVs to a format FCP supports like Apple HDV 720p30. The problem however is that converting these takes an excruciatingly long time. It took about 5-6 hours or more for 40 minutes worth of footage. I have not tried converting such large amounts with Streamclip yet but I don’t think it’s going to be much different. This is quite a big problem as I have got a few hours worth of footage to import still.
Is there anyway to speed this up? Or perhaps is there a better way or codec I should be using?

Maybe try to open them in compressor and assign a preset to convert to the file format you want to edit with.
Staying at 30 P might make the conversion faster.
