Can I archive just a portion of the tape or do I have to do the whole thing
Create Archive will rewind the tape and bring in everything, regardless of timecode breaks, etc. However you can stop the Archive half way through or whenever you like and it will give you the option to keep the partial archive.

I had high hopes for this (archive), but am a bit disappointed after capturing 20 or so tapes this way. FCPX gets through the archive (says completely successful), but I just realized it is actually not capturing the last few minutes of the tape! Can you confirm that you are capturing the ENTIRE tape when you archive it? Can you take a tape, check the last few seconds, and then look in the archive to see if it came through? Most of these are home movies of the kids that I ran all the way to the end of the tape. Might that be the problem? Are most of your tapes stopped recording before the end?
I’m running the latest version of FCPX on an early 2011 i7 Macbook Pro with 8Gigs of ram. Capturing from a Canon Elura 50.
Thanks,
JT
