I missspoke, yes it is TOD timecode.

BTW. I have an old MacPro 2006 too. Installed FCP X and it didn’t mess with any of my Matrox stuff. Everything still worked with FCP 7 without a problem. And it works great with FCP X. But I totally understand your apprehension.

How come I never get any editing done on Mondays? I wish you wouldn’t of told me that, now I’m gonna want to install X on the old Mac. FYI, I was reading an article the other day about BlackMagic’s new Beta driver for the Intensity Pro (Desktop Video 9.2 Beta 3 for Mac) that it was not compatible with the Matrox Compress HD. So if you have both cards installed, you may want to be cautious about installing the FCPX Broadcast monitor beta software on your old Mac.

It’s too late, it’s past 5:00 it’s time to go home…. wait, I am home. Okay well, the only way I can get any work done after 5:00 is if I take a nap first. 🙂

Hey I was reading the FCPX users manual (imagine that!) in the section were it talks about “Archive the media on your tape-based camera on page 490 of the PDF. It says to click on the Create Archive button at the bottom-left corner of the window. Then it says to type a name for the archive. Is this the name you were talking about that it creates as a folder, then you find all of your individual files in it when it’s done capturing the tape?

Do you ever click on the other button labeled “Import” for a tape based camera?

You are a funny guy. Thanks for the chuckle. 😉

You can indeed hit the import button. It does the same as “Capture Now” in FCP 7. But I only hit it a few times. Camera Archives are just way to efficient.

    TP,

I tried that today with my Canon XL2 and it didn’t work. I got the first 18 seconds and then nothing. Very unsatisfying.

    Regards,

    Ty Ford

PS: So far I’m glad this is a trial version and I haven’t paid for it.

    Ty,

Sorry you are having trouble, I have captured dozens of tapes with the Canon HV30 (HDV) and a Sony TRV 11 (DV) successfully. I have been in the process of archiving all of our old tapes (hundreds) an many of the tapes I captured were old and had timecode breaks, etc. and these problems are pronounced when trying to just import. Creating a camera archive seemed to solve those issues.

Did you try Create Archive, or Import?

Also I have heard of others having issues with capture. Some had some relief with a different FireWire cable, so you might try that.

    TP,

import. And I see, but don’t hear every frame as it comes in. Is there a setting to allow me to hear the audio with the video during import?

    Hmm the cable works elsewhere.

    Regards,

    Ty Ford

I would try the Create Archive rather than import, there must be a timecode break or something else that FCP X is seeing in the import process.

Regarding Audio, I just upgraded to Lion and I do hear audio when Creating Archive. But I believe in Snow Leopard I didn’t hear audio when importing.

Try the Create Archive and see if you like the results.

    TP,

I’m already on Lion. Tried it again today. Same problem i=on that tape selection. Another tape, no problem.

I’ll have to see what happens when I try to bring that sec ion back into FCP 7

Can I archive just a portion of the tape or do I have to do the whole thing

    Thanks,

    Ty
