Importing subtitles from a DVD into FCP
Posted by Oliver Jones on May 5, 2008 at 2:52 pmHi,
How can I import subtitles from a DVD into my Final Cut Pro project?
Thanks,
Oliver

If you have a .STL file it’s easy using Subbits.
You need to import the stl as text in Subbits, then export a XML file that gives you really decent subtitles in FCP (and still editable!)

Perhaps i could write a dedicated .stl importer, but if you convert the STL to the normal text format (using Word or Excel) it’s relative painless.

I’ve managed to create an XML file from a text file using Subbits, however when I open it in FCP it doesn’t work.
A new and completely empty sequence appears.

Perhaps the sequence starts at zero while the titles are (default for some encoders/dvdSP) starting at an hour?
Also, keep in mind that the XML gives you a sequence with titles only, you still have to paste them over your video.Otherwise, mail me your files (.stl and .ebs, and the XML) and i’ll have a look at it. No way you can import an FCP XML without warnings and end up with an empty sequence…
